Street Signs: Youth Art Project

July 27, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

The Sooke Fine Arts Show is happy to announce a new workshop opportunity for artists 13 – 19 on Artz4Youth day during the show period, with generous support of the CRD Arts Commission. This free outdoor event will take place Tuesday, July 27 at SEAPARC Leisure Centre (2168 Phillips Road, Sooke) from 11am – 3 pm.

This street art project involves graffiti, stencil art, and any other style participating youth artists might choose. With the guidance of three artist mentors, Street Signs will balance self-expression with safe social distancing, environmental considerations, and respectful sharing of public spaces.

The Street Signs mentors include two of Vancouver Island’s best-known artists: Timothy Wilson Hoey and Shawn O’Keefe. Timothy Wilson Hoey, perhaps best known for his O-Canada project, has created a diverse and potent collection of work. Likewise, while Shawn O’Keefe’s Phillips Brewery labels will be most familiar to many, his powerful landscapes reflect the diversity of his work. Timothy and Shawn will be joined by Sooke youth artist, Axel Tutton, an award-winning artist who exhibited in the 2020 Sooke Fine Arts Show.

All art materials will be provided, and adult supervision and COVID precautions will be in place. Space is limited.

If you have any questions, please contact SFAS @ sfas@sookefinearts.com.
