Our Jury

Three jurors have been selected to fulfill our jurors’ criteria. They are well-known and respected arts professionals and between them are familiar with a large cross-section of working mediums and styles.

Flemming Jorgensen
Flemming Jorgensen has become a much respected and esteemed member of the Victoria artistic community since he began painting and teaching here in the early 1960s. His mastery of artistic techniques, dedication as a teacher and commitment to furthering the quality of the visual arts has won acclaim from other artists, students, critics and art collectors. Born in Aalborg, Denmark, in 1934, Jorgensen immigrated to Canada in 1956. His works are held in the public collections of galleries across Canada and he has held local, national and international solo and group exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Fran Willis Gallery in Victoria as well as galleries in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Copenhagen, Switzerland, France and England. Jorgensen is a co-founder of the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts, where he served as director from 1984-1996.

Jean Pederson
Jean’s traditional practice includes referential imagery of people, still life and landscape. Although well known for her mastery of watercolours, mixed media is an important vehicle for her creative expression. She teaches water media at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary and in workshop settings throughout North America. As a contributing editor for The Artist’s Magazine, Jean has written many arts articles for Splash 8, 9 and 10, Watercolor Magic, International Artist and Magazin’ Art and is included in Canada’s Who’s Who. She is a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society, The Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, and The Federation of Canadian Artists among others. Jean has been honored with over thirty National and International awards and has exhibited in Europe, the U.S., Mexico and across Canada. The Royal Collection in Windsor, England also holds two of Jean’s pieces.
