2012 Jurors

Tara Nicholson has lived across Canada studying in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal and the Banff Centre. Her practice incorporates photography video, painting and curatorial projects to investigate remote and often disputed territories. Exhibiting across Canada, Tara has completed residencies in Newfoundland and Banff and has received Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Canada Council grants. She relocated to Victoria, BC, with the opportunity to teach at the University of Victoria’s Visual Arts Faculty. Tara has also designed studio courses for the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and taught at the Vancouver Island School of Art.

Dan Hudon is co-owner of West End Galleries in Victoria and Edmonton. He has been an art dealer and business partner with his wife, Lana, since the inception of their first gallery in 1975 in Edmonton. They opened a second gallery in Victoria in 1994. They continue to represent Canadian art, encompassing all of Canada. They are the only gallery in Canada that hosts an annual Canadian Glass Show which takes place in Victoria from July to September. Canadian glass art in prominent in both galleries throughout the year. They focus on known and up-and-coming artistic talent in Canada and represent original art in paintings, sculpture and glass.

Suzanne Northcott is an interdisciplinary artist working with installation, video, painting and drawing. She is interested in the shifting place where one thing becomes another, studying dreams and meditation and themes of transformation, decay, metamorphosis and migration. She has a long history of collaborative work with poets, scientists and artists in other genres. Northcott’s work is held in numerous collections. She is a sought-after lecturer, painting, drawing and creative process instructor. As a workshop leader, Suzanne takes groups to exotic locales combining painting with cultural excursions.
